Rachel Emily Nichols was born in Augusta, Maine, the daughter of Alison and James Nichols, a schoolteacher. She is of English, French Canadian, German, Irish, Italian and Scottish ancestral roots. Cony High School was her high school in Augusta. She graduated with a diploma in math and a competitive high jump. Columbia University in New York City was where she graduated with the double degree of math and economics. She began modeling and launched an impressive career in modeling, with prominent companies such as Guess?, Abercrombie & Fitch or L'Oreal. Rachel began acting by landing a role in the HBO situation comedy Sex and the City (1998) at her very first audition.
